The White House wants to do something to increase the number of women in math, science, tech, and engineering. As a guy with three daughters, I’m okay with that. But the way they’re going about it is crazy. The plan is to limit the number of men allowed to take tech-related courses in college.
At first, I thought this was a joke. By 2015, 76 percent of all jobs created in the US will require workers with skills in science, technology, engineering or math. Overall, the demand for workers with tech-skills will outpace supply in the U.S. by more than 300,000 a year.
So right smack in the middle of what is arguably the worst recessions in American history–and with an in increasingly tech-oriented economy and high unemployment–the White House decides to penalize the entire country by limiting the number of men allowed to enroll in tech-related classes and majors.
